Do people in New York/jersey etc have swimming pools?

    I live in Alabama.

My house has an inground 30ft X 60ft pool. I have no idea how much it cost to put it, it came with the house. It costs about $300 a year in chemical costs and probably added about $500 dollars a year in electricity and water. It’s been empty for awhile now, the pump and liner need replaced, for a total of $5000.

My Aunt has an above ground 16ft diameter pool. It cost about $600 start up. And about $150 a year for chemicals and $250 in water and electricity. Also in Alabama, neither of us are rich.

Keep in mind that costs would also depend how much time the pool stays “Wintered.” Here in the south its plausible to keep a pool open from Early Spring to Early Winter, up north the pool would be kept open less. Which would reduce cost.

Also a well maintained pool is easy to keep clean. When we first moved into this house the pool was nightmare of green water and tadpoles. It took about a month and and extra $200 or so for all the chemicals to get it cleaned. After that you just threw a tablet in every few days and vacuumed once a week, about an hour total time every week.
