Fill in or remove in ground swimming pool?
NCT asked:
We have an in ground swimming pool that we would like to either fill in or remove. Anyone have any experience with this? Which did you choose, and why?
The pool is a small free-form. It is too small to swim for exercise or even float. It’s eating up resources and I doubt it would affect the value of the house much at all.

I have a friend who filled his in, and it looks pretty silly, since he did not take out the concrete surround. If you took that out, and everything within one foot of the surface, the pool’s existence would be undetectable. Assuming you really don’t want to swim, remove the surround and top foot, and fill. Go with 6″ of topsoil at the end, after you have compacted the clean fill as best you can.

If it’s a vinyl liner you can fill it in,sidewalk and all but be aware of setteling in the future. Use alot of gravel to help avoid that. If it’s a concrete bottom You need to crack up the bottom of the pool, the deeper end mostly to keep it from holding water after you fill it in.
