Water in swimming pool turning green?

Ed S asked:

I have a 12 foot by 36 inch above ground swimming pool.I have had fresh water in it since the 1st of June.Over the last couple of days the water is getting cloudy with a green tint to it. I have been using chlorine and running my pump daily . Any ideas on how to clear the water up ? I would hate to have to drain the pool and refill it.

Is your pump powerful enough? Many of those small pumps that come with pools that size dont do a very good job. Shock it and keep the filter running. If cloudy..then add clarifier and continue to keep filter running.

“Turbo-shock” will do the trick. Just add a bag of super chlorinating shock and your problem should go away overnight. Some people may suggest an algecide, but I think the shock works best for the money.
Invest (if you haven’t) in a cheap test kit to ensure your chlorine and pH levels are within proper range. Keeping your chemicals correct and the filter working properly, you should have no problem.
