What is the longest recommended length for filter hoses on an above ground swimming pool?

Handyma5 asked:

We have an 18X34′ above ground swimming pool and I would like to put the filter toward the deep end instead of the shallow end for better water circulation. I’d like to do this without having to pay to have the electrical box moved.

if you want to reroute your lines remember that the pump can only do so much…most above ground pools arent made with large pumps, just the basic size…3/4 or 1 horse….anyways the longer the run the less pressure……have you tried to put smaller eyeballs in the returns in the pool????sometimes that can increase the pressure and move the surface water faster

The hoses on our above 24′ ground pool are all 6ft in length. I don’t know if that’s the longest you can possibly get, but I do know that any hose I’ve replaced when I go into the pool store and order it’s standard has been 6ft. Those are the pump to pool and filter to pool hoses. The exception is the pump to filter hose and that’s 4ft.
We have ours set on a timer and also run a Polaris Turbo Turtle that helps clean and keep the water circulated.
You add most of the chemicals either in the deep end, or if it’s round..the farthest from the filter/skimmer. Some are made to add to the skimmer and the turtle helps circulate them around after they’ve been added, also with it’s movement through the water. Most of the pools I’ve seen have the filter/pump in the middle or offset to the side on the deep end. It’s not so much the filter that circulates the water but your water returns and the length of time you are running the filter&pump. Most all chemicals sink to the bottom and your main objective is to keep the water stirred up so that everything gets mixed in correctly and can balance in the extremes of heat and/or rain.
When it’s really hot or has been raining a lot we run the pump 24/7. When it’s early spring or early fall before closing it down we put it on a 12 hour timer that we ran from the electrical box through conduit in the ground to a GPF box/timer next to the filter/pump. Easy to do and saved a huge electrician bill.
